Do I leave money to my children or not. Prior to my FI journey that was an easy answer, “yes why wouldn’t you?” But as I grow closer to FI thoughts of rich spoiled brats have crept into my head. In theory I should be able to raise financially responsible children, but am I hindering them by giving them money when I die?
At this point I have decided that they will likely get an inheritance but they won’t know about it until I die. In fact, I plan on making it clear that they aren’t getting anything as I will be leaving it to “insert random philanthropy here”. I don’t want them to know there is anything for them. I didn’t have anything and don’t expect anything and I want them to have the same attitude.
I will update this post as things progress with my finances but at this point, yes, they will get an inheritance but they will not know about it.
Once they are able to read this blog I will have to remove this post, but until then there it is!
